Acne Treatment

Acne usually disappears on its own with age. Most often none or minor scars remain that vanish away with time. Severe acne, can cause scars that can last for a many years. Therefore, it is good to treat acne when it is still mild so that it can be prevented from becoming severe or causing long lasting damage to the image.

Hormonal fluctuations can be controlled by first getting a hormone analysis done. The doctor can then prescribe medications to bring about a hormonal balance.

Acne is made worse with spicy, oily and junk food. These foods contain saturated and hydrogenated fats that make acne only worse. Try to avoid such food preparations and eat green or orange vegetables instead. Drinking a lot of water regularly through out the day, flushes out any toxic build ups and keeps the skin healthier. If you are sensitive to certain foods, you need to avoid them.

Cut down on sugar. Excess sugar exacerbates acne by increasing oil secretion and providing food for bacteria and yeast.

Take Vitamin E that helps keeping the skin and the immune system healthy.

Acne lotions:

Acne lotions and creams can help to fight acne if you have a dry skin. An oily skin is helped more by using alcohol based gels and solutions.

There are many over the counter acne treatments available. These medications have benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, salicylic acid and sulfur that help break down whiteheads and blackheads. The prescribed versions normally have higher concentrations of these ingredients than those available in the over the counter versions.

Antibiotics:

Antibiotics are normally strong medicines and that is the reason they are always available only with medical prescription. Severe form of acne is treated with antibiotics. It is advisable to not jump to antibiotics if the acne is not severe or unless the doctor thinks it is necessary.

Surgery:

The surgical process for acne is not the more invasive plastic surgery that people often opt for to improve the look. Since acne scars are only on the surface, the top layer of the skin can be peeled of chemically or by rubbing with a rapidly swirling tool that removes the dead and damaged skin.

Laser skin resurfacing also minimize the scars on the skin. Laser is used in this process to vaporize the damaged skin.
